Cassie Jacobs is in a rut she spends more time than she wants at her dead-end job, and her love life is at even more of a dead end than her career. When her best friend suggests that Cassie strike up a long-distance relationship with an old friend of her fiancé, Cassie leaps at the possibility of finding Mr. Right. Cassie meets Blair Hutchinson after exchanging letters and phone calls for months, in a modern version of the Old-West mail-order bride process. By then, she is smitten and anxious to move to the next step quitting her job and moving halfway across the country to be with him.
Once in Texas and part of Blair's life, however, Cassie has to grapple with a host of problems that arise in any relationship, as well as meeting the demands of a new job. Hurt and dismay follow when Blair dumps her and she is laid off. Suddenly, her love story becomes a tale of a contemporary woman down on her luck. She is jobless, with an empty bank account, and alone.
Plucky and resourceful, Cassie gets a food-service job to tide her over until something better turns up and soon meets another man. David seems ideal, but so did Blair, at first. She doesn't want to make the same mistake twice. Will her new relationship blossom into a fiery romance, or will it sour and end when David gets to know her better? Will she ever be able to start a fulfilling career, or will she be stuck working in a restaurant forever? If finding a good man is this hard, how does anyone ever get married?

Sweet woman looking for someone to love her . I love the karma in this book it was a nice afternoon read
This is a really well written literary romance. I enjoyed it thoroughly and read it through the course of one day on my breaks. I was reluctant to put it down. I'm looking forward to more books by this author.
Love reading about mail order brides !!!!! never enough books out there !!!!!! what an adventure some of these women had !!!!
I enjoyed this story. sort of harlequin like. I felt like it had a pretty 'real' feel to it and could have actually happened. Good work Elnora.
GREAT, something that was not exactly what I was expecting, but better reading. A very good story of unexpected beginning and ending.
Elnora Field has written a love story that rings true. The sacrifices of her heroine are the kind so many young women make, hoping that "this is the one." But her story also points up that just because things go very wrong doesn't mean that things are never going to be right. The heroine, Cassie, is able to learn that her independence and personal strength are just as important as any man's and she doesn't have to give everything up for the right man because the right man won't expect that of her. Operation Mail-Order Bride is a quick read because it's a novella, but it's full of reality and life lessons.
